Email News Week

A monthly newsletter seems appropriate for the business. There is not much to update customers about since our website is not fully developed yet. We can always try to get more business by adding promotions to the newsletters. Every month we can talk to our customers about how to keep their homes clean and which products are working best at the moment. We can also add interior design tips and simple ways to remodel rooms with little cost. I would like to reach out community by adding events that we can all benefit from like community gardens, community walks, runs etc.

Categories

Categories I can use...

I believe we can stay by organized by differentiating from the two types of businesses. We have the drywall and painting side and then we have the cleaning side. A category for 'drywall', 'painting', and 'customer tips'. Customers can do things at home and we can help them by posting up a few tips. We can also place posts for categories of 'residential' and another for 'commercial' jobs either for the drywall or the cleaning business. I would like to have a section for a gallery showing 'before' and 'after' pictures of our jobs!

Getting Personal

As for SoCal Services we can get as personal as publishing the 'dirty laundry' since the team is 90% family. However we choose to keep it more business than personal. We have all heard of stories involving family business gone wrong because of that fact. The Gucci family started their leather clothing line in the 15th century and unfortunately the fame has led them to lawsuits any disagreements(http://www.cnbc.com/id/40716101/page/5). The feuds if any can get pretty heated in the business and no one wants to take that heat to the dinner table after clocking out. That is why it is important to separate the family matters from business deals.

The positive side to doing business with family is that there is always an open communication line and most of us are about two minutes away from each others reach, a great convenience! It makes sence to add a little bit of each others personalities in the blog. The claening side of the business is all related except the painting services. That one is only managed by my brother Victor although our cousin-in-law has now joined the team. Writing this blog has just given me the idea to ask each crazy family member to add a little bit of their unique personality to the business blog!

Twitter search

Using the 'Advance search' in Twitter helped to find people and businesses to follow a lot easier. I used the 'any of these words' criteria to begin with and typed in words like 'remodels' and 'drywall'. I narrowed my search down to only San Diego, California because I tried to look up only by words, however, that brought up people and businesses from Texas. I searched the word remodels because I thought this would pull up people who are in need of someone to help them remodel or people who do this for a business. Not having a lot of luck with this I searched under the 'All of these words' criteria for remodels and drywall. I also tried drywall repairs, rehab homes, and painting. The word painting was too broad it pulled up people and business who enjoy painting with water colors and oil based paintings.

When I typed in 'drywall' in San Diego, CA I 'SuperPages Cali' and they are self proclaimed experts at finding deals and coupons for customer needs. It would be awesome if they could feature our company there. I searched real estate in San Diego, CA and found 'Real Estate Pro' and he is a real estate pro and internet marketer.I found 'Foreclosures' @getforeclosures and they help people find homes that are in foreclosure. They could help us to find business if the new owner is in need of drywall repairs or painting/cleaning. The last hing I found success in searching was 'home remodeling'. I found 'pool services tech' @pstpools they drain pools for people trying to get rid of them and potentially in need of additional remodeling services we can assist with!

Benefits of Tumblr & Instagram

I looked up one business on Tumblr which is called Precise Drywall Inc.. They specialize in construction, drywall, moisture reads etc. Tumblr seems to work as a call of action to their website.By scrolling down their page I see they have posts that include links to other companies as well. They feature Man in Services which is a plumbing, a/c, etc. company. Their website has a good example of B2B networking that seems to be working for them.

Magic Touch Cleaning has a limited Instagram account. They have only 5 photos and the most recent one was taken a year ago. The first picture shows a man vacuuming up a carpet and the caption reads "this is us cleaning your house." They also have one picture that is laid out as before and after Magic Touch of a outdoor mat. They have a picture of a clean stove. The before/after shot would have been nice to see with the stove because usually those stoves are the ones that carry the most (cooking)grease. It looks like they do not spend too much time on their Instagram show casing their work. It would be nice to see this profile more developed.

This is a screen shot of the posts I have scheduled for my page. The first one is a general question that really has nothing to do with the business just an interest question. This is sort of a test to see if my scheduled time will engage my followers and how many of them are commenting or liking. Spring time is coming so I decided to set a reminder and get into my followers heads by asking their opinion on their favorite products. The last post is a question that can get most of my followers involved if they answer it and hopefully they feel comfortable enough to share thoughts with other people commenting or liking the posts. I feel like the posts are more dedicated to the consumers and less focusing on the business.

Liked Businesses

The businesses I chose to "like" this week:

  • ZEP cleaning products
  • Oxiclean products
  • Home Decor magazines
  • Home Depot
  • Lowe's Home Improvement
  • Frazee paint
  • Dunn Edwards paint
  • Century 21
  • Cleaning and other Painting & contractors businesses
I chose to like the cleaning and painting products because they might be able to  give good tips on how to use certain products on specific surfaces, appliances, etc. The type of customers who are interested in these products are most likely the cleaning type and will hopefully be in need of professional cleaners, wether for service or  suggestions on cleaning services.

The magazine pages are more for informational use, we can use these pages to look into any new items out in the market. There could also be good promotional opportunity in the future.

I liked Real estate companies like Century 21 and other painting and housekeeping companies to keep in network with them. If for some reason they have a scheduling conflict they can refer work to us and vice versa!

I hope that I can use all the businesses liked to help improve mine. Most importantly I hope to be an asset to the social media community.

Facebook Components

I have created a Facebook page for my brother's and for my mother's cleaning and painting company. This week we are identifying the following page post insights terms;

Reach: Identifies the demographics of the people who are viewing my page for example the age and the location. 18% of users are between the ages of 18-24 and 22% are between 25-34. This makes sence because most of my FB friends that I invited to "like" my page are around my age. Only 4% of users are 45-64. They are all mostly users from Escondido city.
Engaged Users: I do not have any engaged users yet because I have not posted any events, or questions, however I have 49 likes so far.
Talking About This: I do not have any one talking about this yet because I have not posted any events or questions for people to be able to comment on or engage in a conversation with me yet.

Virality: I have not had anyone create a story from my page post out of the people who have viewed it yet.

Hopefully soon I will be having more interaction with future customers.

My Target Market

I will be using my brother's painting business and my mother's cleaning business for the duration of this class. I have identified my target market to be
  • home owners
  •  realtors
  •  apt. managers
  •  real estate management co.
  •  commercial management co.'s
  •  contractors.
They would have to be located anywhere in San Diego county i.e. N. County, East county, South bay also Riverside county (Murrieta, Temecula). My target audience will need cleaning and painting services. If they have customers that are moving out/in. We provide construction clean up and window cleaning. We also provide painting and drywall services.

Two Frequently Visited Websites

Coasttocoastam.com

This website is effective because it gives the viewers a lot of information regarding the radio show for example the guests and show topics. Facebook, Twitter, and Blog is accessible on their website. The website has a great banner with the host picture and  the name of the radio show so immediately you know you have found the correct site. The quick links are all on the same side and highlighted to be easier to locate. I keep going back to this page because I am a frequent listener and if I need further information or a recap they always have that information available. They provide information such as guest info., books to read, and/or links to important sites. It would be okay also if they did not have as many pictures of what I call it random info.

Dictionary.com

This website contains a simple and neat look which I really appreciate. The website has all the links to jump to at the top(i.e "thesaurus"). I started with looking up words to define as needed and I noticed it also contains "word of the day" and other fun stuff to take a look at. I would rather it did not have as many ads as is contains now. I do understand that is is probably how they maintain the site free( to them).

My Experience Through Social Media

I try no to use social media as a way to communicate with businesses. I prefer a private email or call. I did have a positive experience with a Jiu Jitsu dojo I am currently attending. 10th planet Vista has been great in responding to any questions I might have regarding time of scheduled events in a timely manner. They make me feel like I am important part of their business when they include me in events they hold, because they invite the members who add them through Facebook.

My Top Five

1. Chik-Fil-A.com
  • Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, & Instagram
2. Beehivewaxingsalon.com
  • Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Blog
3. Worldmarket.com
  • Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google +, Pinterest
4. UTsandiego.com
  • Twitter, Youtube, Flicker, Pinterest, Blog
5. Seaworldparks.com
  • Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Flicker, Blog

Business VS Pleasure

For the most part social media is geared towards business and even cites like Facebook and Twitter are being used by businesses to boost their traffic. Facebook is mostly known as a great way to communicate with your friends and family specially the ones you do not wish to communicate verbally with. Facebook has also been created to understand the likes and interest of us the customer's because that in reality is Facebook's business. Twitter and Instagram is another way to attract customers to businesses with similar interests. Websites like Pinterest and Linkedin are more geared towards business people to socialice regarding business matters. I do not have an account with Pineterest or Linked in so I am not too familiar on how they work exactly bu this is what a couple of people have told me when I asked them about it.

Template

I chose the "Awesome" template because it did catch my eye the name of it. If it sounds awesome then it must be awesome, right? Well it was the best choice for me and it is still simple but not too boring. I did not want to take too much focus off the actual log post but I did choose that background because of the melancholy colors to it.

The layout is set so that the "About me" section is on the right side of the page and the Blog post is wide enough to be the main attraction. Just as a reading book from left to right.
